Dear Representative Allen:

As your dedicated supporter, one who canvassed for you in the past, I sincerely hope you agree with me that the proposed unprovoked attack on Iraq is not only morally corrupt and irrational, but also would instigate a series of events from which this country may never recover.

Invading Iraq, even under the transparent guise of prevention, is not patriotism. According to nearly all accounts (including congressional Republicans), Iraq is nowhere near nuclear capability. Why this sudden need to use military force, particularly after years of killing innocent civilians with unnecessary sanctions that have done nothing to alter the Iraqi power structure? This is another abuse of power by an arrogant and self-righteous administration. We will lose all future moral credibility and exacerbate our relations with Middle Eastern countries, consequences that undoubtedly will prove disastrous.

It makes me sick that the first unprovoked US attack in history is even being discussed, let alone against a country that has posed absolutely no apparent threat. The media is only now beginning to question the actions of the administration for the first time since Sept. 11, when foundations of democracy, such as freedom to criticize (a freedom that some Founding Fathers considered an obligation) became identified with treason. I only hope that members of congress maintain the same objectivity when listening to Bush attempt to rationalize an unprovoked invasion.

A military strike against Iraq will guarantee decades of increased violence and international hatred of the United States. It will give rise to countless new terrorists threats that can be defeated not through escalated violence, but only by changing the environment that fostered it to begin with.

It is obvious to an increasing number of people that our current president is simply intellectually unqualified to lead this country. I sincerely hope you stand against him on this measure.
